April 5, 2008  Raising Suicide Awareness Through Music

WINNIPEG - Local rockers Giv'R performed their annual benefit concert Saturday April 5th 2008, raising $1183 for Teen touch Inc. Along with the bands HCE, ends & means, and Neumonon. The concert showcased songs by late Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain, whose life ended at the age of 27.

With all the tragic "copycat" suicides that have occurred since his death in 1994, the event hoped to raise awareness on the issue of suicide and to show that there is help available to anyone who needs it. This was the fifth and most successful year the band has hosted the benefit.

Giv'R, a 4 piece alternative rock band that started in 2003 consists of members: Tyler Hunt, Danny Starbourne, Cameron O'Neil, and Scott McNabb. Information can be obtained on the bands website at www.givr.ca.

A special thanks goes out to the following for making this event possible:

  • The Zoo - Osorne Village Inn
  • Freq 107
  • Power 97
  • City TV / Breakfast Television
  • Shaw TV - Jeff Bromley
  • U of W campus radio
  • The bands: neumonon, ends & means, HCE, and Giv'R
